Weather Related School Closings
During the week of December 7, a letter regarding School District 105 procedures on weather related closings was sent home with all students in their Wednesday/Friday envelope.

1/2 Day - Thur. Feb. 11 / No School - Fri. Feb. 12 and Mon. Feb. 15 (Washington's Birthday)
Thursday February 11 is a half-day attendance for students due to teachers Professional Learning Day.

Friday, February 12 is a non-attendance day. 

Monday, February 15, George Washington's Birthday, is a United States federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday of February. It is also commonly known as Presidents Day in order to honor all U.S. presidents. A PBS documentary on George Washington's life can be found HERE.
Kindergarten Roundup / Inscripción para el Jardín de Niños - Tuesday March 10 at 7PM
If your child will be five years old on or before September 1, 2010, he/she is eligible to enroll in kindergarten for the 2010-2011 school year. Plan now to attend Kindergarten Roundup, a special evening introducing you to our Kindergarten Program. This evening is designed for parents only.  The event will be at 7PM on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at each neighborhood school.  Click HERE to read the full announcement.

District 105 is conducting our fifth annual survey during the month of February. The survey focuses on a few core questions and will take you only five to ten minutes to complete. 

There are separate surveys for parents of Elementary Students and Gurrie Students.  If you have students in both an elementary school and Gurrie then please take BOTH surveys.

District Dashboard
District 105 recently joined the Consortium for Educational Change (CEC). CEC is a network of school districts and professional organizations that helps districts and schools improve student achievement.   Last spring, District 105 participated in a CEC assessment process that included an external review by a team of administrators and teachers from some of the highest performing districts in the Chicago area. The team observed practices and interviewed well over one hundred parents, staff, students, Board members, and administrators. 
 
The feedback report from the CEC team cited many district and school strengths. The report also identified areas for improvement. One of these areas was the need to provide information to our stakeholders in a more concise and easy to understand format. The district has been collecting, analyzing, and reporting student performance data for several years, but the CEC team reported that many of our stakeholders did not understand how all of our data pieces fit together. CEC helped us start to develop a District Dashboard to simplify the reporting of our goals, measures, and progress.
 
The District 105 Dashboard has been posted on our website. The Dashboard contains our six district goals, historical data, 2009-10 targets, and a status indicator (red, yellow, green). Our Dashboard will continue to develop as we add and refine our measures; you will note that the Goal 1 data are most developed as we have been monitoring our student learning progress for quite some time.

The Dashboard will be updated on the website and presented to the School Board on a quarterly basis to provide straightforward information about the progress the district is making toward its goals. Our most critical problem solving areas are marked by red status - areas in which the district is not progressing adequately toward our targets.  
 
Each of our five schools is also developing a Dashboard that will reflect school progress and priorities. We anticipate that our school dashboards will be posted by February 15, 2010.
