Emergency School Closing Information

During emergency weather situations, the Lyons Township School Superintendents work closely well before the start of the school day to monitor weather conditions and review other information provided by the police and bus companies.  The superintendents generally make a decision together about whether or not to close the township schools unless there is a problem that affects only one particular district.

If District 105 schools are closed, radio & TV stations that broadcast school closings will be notified. These stations include WGN, 720 AM; WBBM, 780 AM; CBS 2 TV; NBC 5 TV; ABC 7 TV; WGN 9 TV; FOX 32 TV; and CLTV.  The district also provides information through the following sources about school closings and other weather related circumstances such as late buses:

The district’s website,
www.d105.net, will provide timely information about whether our schools are closed or in session on days with emergency weather situations.

The District 105 emergency hotline (708 482-2722) will provide timely information about school closings.  Please do not call your school or the district office about school closing information as  personnel will be very busy responding to the safety needs that arise during emergency weather.

Parents can also find any changes in the district schedule by visiting
www.emergencyclosings.com

In addition to providing information through the sources listed above, the district will contact parents about school closings and other weather related circumstances with an automated calling service. The service will make calls to two phone numbers per family. We have designated the home phone number and parent cell phone number we have in our family contact database.

The safety of our students is foremost when a decision is made concerning the cancellation of school.   Because individual circumstances vary, it is important to recognize that  parents have the primary responsibility and the right to determine whether or not to send their children to school during emergency weather situations.
